M1 Mechanical Engineering

OPEN IN A WORKPLACE

The first year (M1) of the Master degree offers varied courses in Mechanical Engineering. It is essentially composed of a common core, with a single choice of option, thus allowing all students to have a solid common base and to then choose an orientation in M2 of Mechanics. The Mechanical Engineering Master degree is also open alternating with professionalization contracts or apprenticeship contracts. For students in M1, the contract is necessarily 2 years. The work-study schedule in M1 is 3 days at the university and 2 days of work until mid-May. From mid-May to the beginning of September, the student is within the company. For more details, you can refer to the CFA website of the University of Lorraine.

First Semester S7

Semester 7 (or 1st semester of M1) of the Master of Mechanical Engineering consists of a general common core: 5 fondamental scientific courses (UE for Unité d’Enseignement) preparing for the orientations of the second year M2, and 2 courses of transversal skills: Languages for all students and Industry 4.0 for students who are not alternating.

Second Semester S8

The second semester S8 of the first year is a phase of in-depth study and orientation towards the two possible options : Bio-Mechanics or the 4.0 engineering mechanics (I2M) which is available in three orientations: Materials Mechanics (MM , professional course, open to work-study), Mechanical Engineering (GM, professional course, open to work-study), Mechanics, Materials, Structures and Processes (MMSP, research-oriented course).
During this second semester of Master 1, the student chooses one unit from two offered, allowing him to prepare for entry into M2 I2M: Materials Mechanics orientation, to prepare for entry into the MM or MMSP course or Mechanical Engineering orientation, to prepare entry into the GM course. The Industry 4.0 project initiated in the first semester for students who are not on a work-study program, continues in Semester 8.
